Around The World In Commerce No. 318

Read online

Dear Readers,

The three things on my mind this week:

  1. Are Stablecoins the next shiny thing that businesses will chase? Another crypto concept that could seemingly help facilitate cross-border commerce, but what will be its usage by consumers?
  2. I sit in the middle of the world, literally, and it feels like we are witnessing Chinese marketplaces and logistics solutions expanding into new markets. I have not spoken about this in detail, but the Middle East and Brazil are the battleground for consumers. Is this due to trade relationships or what?
  3. Founders who start AI commerce-based agents or platforms feel the need for capital. Daydream raised $50M, and now I read that Gensmo raised over $60M in Seed funding. How does this make any sense? Oh, and while I'm on the subject, everyone wants to be first to market in a sector - really? This makes me so angry; I know of founders who cannot even raise $1 million. Investors want to put cash to work, but how does a $50M to $60M Seed help anyone? I am on the lookout for AI-commerce startups that are interesting.

I would like to thank all the readers who take the time to reply to this email (I spend a considerable amount of time creating this newsletter) and appreciate any comments, even if you disagree with me. All comments are confidential and are not disclosed.

Read online Dear Readers, The three things on my mind this week:? Why aren't we discussing Chinese sellers going directly to markets through marketplaces? This seems to be a developing trend, as I am aware of startups that are helping Chinese sellers enter marketplaces on various continents.
